ISETCam and psych221 Matlab software are the basis of the homework and many of the course projects. The software is stored in two GitHub repositories. It is best that you download these repositories using git. The reason for using git is that sometimes we have to make small changes or additions to the git repository. If you are using git (and GitHub) then staying up to date will be easy.

Git and GitHub are important tools for modern science and engineering. It is good for you to learn at least a little about them. You can access the GitHub web-site to read about apps that let you manage your GitHub repositories. We think it is best for you to use the GitHub Desktop app to manage your repositories.

Some students will be doing projects using ISETBio. The URL for that repository is (https://github.com/isetbio/isetbio).

Downloading from the command line.

If you greatly prefer to use the command line, you can install the command line version of Git on your computer.

We assume you have git installed on your computer you can clone the repository by running this in your command line:

git clone https://github.com/ISET/psych221.git

Also clone this directory by running in your command line:

git clone https://github.com/ISET/isetcam.git

You may also need to clone the JSONio repo and add it to your MATLAB path:

git clone https://github.com/gllmflndn/JSONio.git

Matlab path. You will need to have both Matlab repositories added to your path. You can do this using the Matlab function 'addpath'. For example, you can chdir() into the home directory of ISETCam and run addpath(genpath(pwd));

Git. Here is a tutorial on how to use git. For this class, there is only one important command you will need after you download the repository. That is 'git pull' which enables gets the latest changes from the whichever repository is cloned into the current directory onto your computer.
